Yes, and we’d love to host you. Dynomite Farm is a private, appointment-only U-Cut flower farm in Santa Cruz, California. You come out to the field, choose the flowers that speak to you and cut your own bouquet by hand. Because every visit is by appointment, there are no crowds and no rushing, just flowers and the sounds of the farm around you.
Dahlias are our signature flower, and we grow them florist-grade. Our dahlias bloom from early July through early October here in Santa Cruz. Peak season, when color, variety and stem length are all at their best, runs from late July through early September. If you want to time your visit around dahlias, that late summer window is the sweet spot.
We grow more than 500 dahlia plants in 100+ varieties across our raised beds, so there’s always something amazing in bloom. Every variety you see here grows from tubers we dig and store each fall, the same tubers you can buy in our Dahlia Tuber Shop.
Dynomite Farm is private and by appointment only, so there are no public U-Cut hours or drop-ins. Book your U-Cut Flower Experience online: choose your date and time and reserve your spot. A florist sells you a finished arrangement, chosen from flowers behind the glass of a refrigerator. We grow competition-quality, florist-grade flowers, and you come cut them yourself. You’ll stand among a thousand blooms (literally) and choose the color, size and form that speaks to you. It’s an entirely different relationship with flowers than you’ll find in a shop.
Our U-Cut Flower Experience is wonderful for families who appreciate a slower, hands-on visit. As part of our homestead, we have a dozen egg-laying chickens, and children love tossing them chicken scratch. Every visit is private, by appointment only and intentionally low-key. This isn’t a petting zoo or a tourist attraction; it’s a real working flower farm and homestead that opens its gates to people who want to connect with flowers.
Dahlias are our main event, July through early October, but the cutting garden also includes ranunculus in the spring, late March through early May, along with wildflowers and seasonal companion flowers and foliage that change throughout the year. The farm runs on a seasonal rhythm, so what’s available depends on what’s thriving at the time of your visit. We always share what’s in bloom before your appointment so you know what to expect.
Absolutely. Our U-Cut Flower Experience is designed to be shared, by the friends cutting flowers and by the companions simply along for the outing. A friend who wants to cut their own bouquet books a Join a Friend pass, and anyone joining you in the field without cutting adds a Companion Pass at checkout. Check the booking page for details.
We’ve hosted bridal parties, baby showers, birthdays, graduations and all sorts of special events. If your party is larger than two, please email us in advance at support@dynomitefarm.com to discuss.
Yes. A membership is a vote of support, a recognition that quiet, intentional, flower-based urban farms matter, for our community and well beyond it. Your support arrives in the off-season, when we buy the seed, fertilizer and compost that become next year’s flowers.
Our Supporting Membership ($18) is a thank-you for that support, with early access to our Dahlia Tuber Shop. Patron ($110) adds two U-Cut Flower Experiences plus companion passes, and Benefactor ($850) includes twelve U-Cut Flower Experiences, each with companion passes.
2027 memberships are on sale through December 31, 2026. Our Membership year is October 1 through September 30. Compare memberships to find the one that best suits you.
We do! Every fall after the growing season wraps, we dig, divide, wash and label tubers from the same award-winning dahlias you see growing here. Our Dahlia Tuber Shop is always open, so start shopping and building your favorites list now. Popular varieties go quickly.
Members get the best selection and early access. Our Supporting Membership is just $18. Tubers ship nationwide starting in April, timed to the last frost date in your region, and we include growing notes with every order.
Gift cards are available through our online shop at dynomitefarm.com and can be applied toward U-Cut Experiences, memberships, or dahlia tubers. If you’re looking for a gift for someone who loves flowers, or just wants something genuinely different, a U-Cut Flower Experience tends to land better than anything that comes in a box or through the mail. Gift cards don’t expire and can be used at their pace, on their schedule.
For 2027, our private U-Cut Flower Experience is $69 per person and includes a full field container of blooms to cut and take home. Our Patron and Benefactor memberships include U-Cut visits through the season. Gift experiences are available if you’d like to give the U-Cut Flower Experience as a gift.
Yes. Our ranunculus season runs late March through early May, and we open the field for U-Cut Flower Experiences during that window. Sign up for our newsletter at the bottom of any page to hear when ranunculus and dahlia bookings open.
We are at 2331 Mattison Lane, Santa Cruz, CA 95062, in the Live Oak neighborhood, about 3 miles from downtown Santa Cruz and 2 miles from Capitola Village. Please park in our driveway, and carpooling is encouraged. Exact directions are included in your reservation confirmation.
For the safety of our flowers, chickens, and residents, we ask that dogs stay home for U-Cut visits. Service animals are welcome.
Each U-Cut Flower Experience is booked for up to two people cutting. If your party is larger than two, please email us in advance at support@dynomitefarm.com to discuss.
Plan on 90 minutes, with most of that time in the field. There’s no rush; we’d rather you take your time choosing the perfect flower than hurry. Most guests cut for a while, wander and leave with a full container.
Please be sure to bring a container for your flowers! (We have a backup container in case you forget.)
Bring your own container or bucket to carry your flowers home; we provide snips and a field container for cutting. Wear closed-toe shoes you don’t mind getting a little dusty, and bring a hat and water on warm days. Sunscreen is always good to have. Mornings in Santa Cruz can be cool, so dress in layers.
The U-Cut Flower Experience ($69 per person for 2027) reserves your private time slot and includes a field container of flowers that you cut.
A Join a Friend pass ($69) is a link you share with a friend you’d like to have cut alongside you during your reserved date and time. It lets them pay their own way.
Our Companion Pass ($18) is for someone who wants to join you in the flowers without cutting their own bouquet. Children under 12 are free.
