Hollyhill Black Beauty has 4 to 6-inch informal decorative blooms in a velvety black-red, about as close to black as a dahlia gets. The dark color gives contrast to almost any flower in an arrangement.
Ted and Margaret Kennedy of Hollyhill Dahlias call it the most popular flower they have bred. It shared the American Dahlia Society’s Stanley Johnson Medal in 2021 and earned 110 blue ribbons or better in 2025. Tall, vigorous plants reach about 4.5 feet with plenty of long stems. Cut when about three-quarters open, since the blooms do not unfurl much after cutting. Every Hollyhill Black Beauty tuber we ship is grown, hand-divided and inspected at division here at Dynomite Farm in Santa Cruz.
