Valley Porcupine is a novelty dahlia with spiky, pointed petals that are prickly to the touch. Each 3 to 4-inch bloom is creamy blush with hot pink edging on every point, firm like a ball dahlia but in a category of its own.
Bred by David and Leone Smith, it is one of the winningest dahlias ever shown: it won the ADS Stanley Johnson Medal in 2005 and earned 233 blue ribbons or better in 2025, ranking second on the Fabulous Fifty. It is also a favorite of floral designers. Plants reach 3 to 4 feet and tolerate heat well. Every Valley Porcupine tuber we ship is grown, hand-divided and inspected at division here at Dynomite Farm in Santa Cruz.
