A dahlia season at Dynomite Farm (a dahlia farm in Santa Cruz) does not start in the spring. Our season starts in November, when tubers are dug, washed, labeled, and stored. Want to grow dahlias from our farm at home? We sell dahlia tubers from our Santa Cruz beds each November through April — 100+ proven varieties, hand-dug and hand-inspected. Our work continues through the winter when variety lists are made and remade and the planting plan is drawn out bed by bed. By the time the soil is warm enough to plant by March 15th of this year, we have already been thinking about this season for months.
This year we are growing 102 varieties across 14 raised beds. Some are tried and true favorites. Some are first-year seedlings we are trialing for the first time. All of them were chosen because we believe they are worth growing and worth cutting for our Members and guests.

Dynomite Farm opens for private U-Cut Flower Experiences each summer and this year we are anticipating a late June start for early visits, with the full dahlia bloom window running through September.
Each U-Cut Flower Experience is a private, 90-minute dahlia cutting outing here on the farm. One party at a time, solo or with friends, private, by appointment only. You walk the beds, choose your stems, and take home a bouquet you cut yourself from flowers that were in the ground just hours before.
We grow a florist grade flower with long, straight stems and disbudded dahlias so the flowers are literally show quality. We have the flower show ribbons to prove that. There is nothing quite like our private U-Cut Flower Experience.
