Islander is a large informal decorative with 8 to 10-inch blooms in watermelon pink, shot through with raspberry and touches of apricot. The full, flamboyant flowers are a showpiece in the garden.
Introduced in 1983 by John Wickey, it remains a steady winner and has placed in the American Dahlia Society’s Cream of the Crop every year from 2019 to 2025. Plants reach 3.5 to 4.5 feet, handle heat well and rebloom reliably on sturdy stems. Cut soon after the blooms open to keep them clear of wind and rain damage. Every Islander tuber we ship is grown, hand-divided and inspected at division here at Dynomite Farm in Santa Cruz.
