Every fall we lift our dahlia tubers from the raised beds, wash them, label them and tuck them away for winter. It’s quiet, hands-on work, and it’s how next year’s flowers begin. We’d love your help.
Spend two hours with us at our urban flower farm and homestead in Santa Cruz. You’ll learn how a dahlia garden carries over from one year to the next, and you’ll leave with know-how you can use in your own garden.
October 28 to December 20 | Two hours of volunteering | Ages 16 and older
Gently dig the tuber clumps out of the raised beds.
Rinse away the soil so every tuber is clean and easy to check.
Mark every variety, the step that keeps our 100+ varieties true to name.
Pack the tubers away so they wake up healthy in spring.
No experience needed. We teach as we go.
Dynomite Farm is private and by appointment only, and volunteering is too. When you book a time to volunteer, it’s yours: just you, or you and up to three friends you choose to bring.

Can I change or cancel my volunteer time?
Yes. Use the link in your confirmation email, or let us know, so someone else can take the spot.
What if it rains?
We work through light rain. If heavy rain is coming, we’ll reach out to reschedule.
Do I need experience?
Not at all. We’ll show you everything as we go.
